Horseback Patagonia is the name we gave our company, although equestrian culture and the ranch work in Northern Patagonia are very old, we created this company to serve as a bridge between the traditional and modern worlds, to essentially “modernize” ourselves and create a window between two cultures.

Our company mission is to give our guests a taste of traditional Patagonia and to give our neighbors, who serve as our host families, exposure to the world outside of Patagonia. Thus, the company hopes to create a fusion of two worlds during our limited tourism season, allowing each to experience the other during a brief window of opportunity. And so, we cherish the human interaction aspect of our trips as much as the equestrian adventure aspect.

The activities that we offer are in accordance with our mission of trying to bring these two worlds together. Thus, we strive to develop trips that are holistically rooted in local culture, have a closeness with the horses and that value the simple things in life. Our objective is not to advocate that “simpler is better”, but to allow our guests to experience an isolated and remote world, where options are limited and necessity and integration with the ways of nature are essential for survival.

The hope is that through our excursions and trips, our guests will achieve a sincere and deep connection with the natural world that they will take with them when they depart Patagonia and return to their regular lives.

At Horseback Patagonia we are advocates and practitioners of the methodology of Rational Dressage. This philosophy of horsemanship strives to make the rider and horse function as a single unit. So that the rider understands the horse and the horse understands to rider. The terrain of Northern Patagonia is extremely rugged and steep and our horses were born and bred to negotiate this unforgiving landscape. Therefore, our horses have a lot to teach their riders, provide both can communicate with one another. Through years of experience with horses, we have come to realize that the methodology of rational dressage is the fastest and most effective methodology to create this symbiotic relationship. Our owner and head guide, Fabian Baeza, has been formally educated in rational dressage and it is a core part of the philosophy of Horseback Patagonia, in addition to our cultural immersion ethos.
